Jonathan Lewis is an entrepreneur, financial advisor, author, husband, father and Christian leader—but the story behind those titles is less polished.

Jonathan's life changed just after his fifteenth birthday when his father drowned while the two were scuba diving off the coast of Nova Scotia. Jonathan fought to save him but couldn't. He survived; his father didn't. In the years that followed, he carried grief, anger, guilt and the belief that somehow he had failed the man who meant everything to him.

For a time, Jonathan ran—from God, from the pain of his past, and eventually toward achievement. After periods of instability and homelessness, he became intensely driven: an entrepreneur, business builder and workaholic. Success came, but it didn't answer the questions beneath the ambition. He discovered that accomplishment is a poor substitute for identity, purpose and peace.

Today, Jonathan is President of Eastport Financial Group, a company whose name carries forward his father’s business legacy. While his career has been built around advising successful entrepreneurs and families, his fascination with wealth has increasingly become a fascination with stewardship—not simply how much we accumulate, but what we do with everything entrusted to us: our businesses, resources, influence, relationships and remaining years.

That conviction extends well beyond Eastport. Through SPARK, Jonathan challenges Christian business leaders to consider what their businesses, wealth and influence are ultimately for. Through Fathers for Fathers, perhaps his most personal work, he has returned to the wound that shaped much of his own life: fatherlessness. Having experienced both the loss of his father and, later, the pain of family alienation, he is passionate about calling men out of isolation and into brotherhood, responsibility, faith and purposeful masculinity.

His newest book, The Field Guide to Godly Masculinity, was written in support of that mission—a practical call for men to live with courage, responsibility, sacrifice, faith and love.

Jonathan is also candid about the contradictions in his own story. A man who talks about stewardship still fights his tendency to work too much. A man who encourages fathers to be present must remind himself to be present. A man who speaks about surrender remains intensely driven. And a man who encourages other men has learned how much he needs other men himself.

Perhaps that tension explains Jonathan better than his accomplishments do.

Today, Jonathan and his wife, Sara, are watching their two grown daughters make their own way through university and into adulthood. Together, they are building a life increasingly centred on faith, family, hospitality, generosity and service.

Jonathan still builds things. He still dreams big and sometimes moves too fast. But the motivation has changed.

The fifteen-year-old boy who once believed he had failed because he wasn’t strong enough to save his father has spent much of his adult life learning that he was never meant to save everyone.

His calling is simpler: to faithfully steward what has been placed in his hands—his family, his business, his resources, his influence, his wounds, his story, his faith, and whatever time he has left.
